How the Mainstream Voucher Program Works

Our Mainstream Voucher Program is a HUD-sponsored rent subsidy program dedicated to housing the disabled. To apply, you need to prove that you are disabled and meet the income criteria. The income criteria figures are the same ones used by all Housing Authorities who administer Section 8 Vouchers.

Here's how the Mainstream Voucher Program works:

Step 1: Prove that you are disabled and that you meet income requirements.
The income criteria figures are the same ones used by all Housing Authorities who administer Section 8 Vouchers. Details are available at the CHN office.

Step 2: Get a packet of information to complete and return.
The Mainstream Voucher program manager will provide you with this packet. All information must be returned in order to be certified for a voucher. Required information includes:

  • A copy of your birth certificate

  • A copy of your Social Security card

  • A criminal background check and

  • Proof of income for everyone who will be living in the dwelling

Step 3: Once certified, you will receive a voucher to use to find a place to live.

Step 4: The property is inspected.

Step 5: You and the landlord participate in a briefing.

Step 6: You sign the lease with your new landlord.
Community Housing Network signs a separate lease regarding voucher payments only.
